"On Green, We Go" Satin Scarf
We, the people, are destroying and consuming nature at a devastating rate. We need to catalyze action for biodiversity conservation and policy change, critical to protecting the natural resources we need to survive.
Every change, however small it might seem, helps our environment.
This art piece intends to be an instrument of reflection and action.
It aims to reflect upon the past, the present, and the future of the condition of animals on Planet Earth and rethink the relationship we have with them.
Past. Present. Future.
Left. Front. Right.
Extinct. Critically Endangered. Endangered Animals.
The background consists of a banana tree painted in various shades of green that represents the future. This banana tree has three legs (Past, Present, Future) housing the respective status of their animals. I was careful choosing animals that are not so well known to the general public or that emanate a sense of tenderness at first sight. They all have the same importance.
The Extinct Animals are looking to the left, the past, and there is nothing else we can do but to remember them. The Critically Endangered Animals are looking forward because there is still a (remote) possibility for them to survive. Finally, the Endangered Animals are looking right, full of hope, waiting for a better future with more action, for the sake of all of us.
Quoting David Attenborough, "It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. It is the greatest source of so much in life that makes life worth living."
Meganeura. (Due to the lack of exact information about the physiognomy of this species, I created an animal-based on the critically endangered dragonflies traces as reference)
Critically Endangered Animals:
Lesser Bermuda Land Snail.
Giant East Usambara Blade-Horned Chameleon.
Small Ermine Moth.
All research about these animals and their condition was made through these reliable sources:
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature);
SSC (Species Survival Commission);
WWF( World Wildlife Fund);
When I was creating the paintings of these animals, I always had the intention to be faithful to their remarkable physiognomic characteristics. However, these paintings are not intended to be a matter of scientific study, therefore, as a painter, I emphasized some lines/colors following my genre of painting: surrealist and fauvist, without distorting the reality.
